The Solinst Readout Unit (SRU) is an in-field device designed to take and display instant water level readings from a deployed Solinst datalogger.

When connected, you can also select a real-time sampling rate and start a real-time monitoring session independent of the datalogger's internal logging mode. Real-time logs can be saved in the SRU memory.

The SRU has an internal barometer, which provides the option of showing and saving real-time water level readings corrected to ambient air pressure.

The SRU provides access to useful information about the connected datalogger's status, including battery level, memory, serial number, firmware version, and logging mode, as well as the SRU status.

How the Solinst Readout Unit Works

The SRU connects to a Levelogger's Direct Read Cable, a LevelVent Wellhead, or AquaVent Wellhead connector cable.

Using push-buttons, it is easy to power-on and navigate through all SRU menu options. The LCD screen contrast is adjustable to ensure easy viewing in any field condition.

To transfer data files to a PC, the SRU connects using a USB cable. The SRU has upgradable firmware, which allows for future improvements and compatibility with new dataloggers. Note that separate Levelogger PC Software is used to download, view, export, delete data and set up dataloggers.

- Capture high quality recordings with the SM3-Microphone-To-SM2 Adaptor. Use the new SM3-U1 microphone (featuring the Knowles FG microphone element) with your SM2BAT+ and SM2 cables. The SM3-U1 is weatherproof, immune to electromagnetic interference, produces a flatter frequency response than the SMX-US and SMX-UT microphones and has a higher signal-to-noise ratio. The 3rd generation Song Meter SM3BAT is a new benchmark for bat bioacoustics recorders. From innovative recording features, massive data storage capacity and a significant improvement in deployment time over the SM2BAT+, the new SM3BAT makes bat echolocation data capture, easier and more cost effective.

Double your effective field coverage.
The SM3BAT is the only recorder that can simultaneously record in full spectrum at 256 kHz on two channels AND zero crossing on the same channels. It's like having two full spectrum and two zero crossing recorders in one box.

Should you need a higher sampling rate, the SM3BAT can sample in full spectrum up to 384 kHz on one channel. If you want more options for zero crossing files, the recorder has an improved zero crossing auto level and division ratios of 4, 8, 12 or 16.

Record up to 180 hours in full spectrum.
Time is money and the SM3BAT was designed to reduce your cost of ownership. The SM3BAT has new power circuitry that increases deployment time by 50% over the SM2BAT+. In short, the SM3BAT can record up to 180 hours of echolocation data in full spectrum and up to 700 hours in zero crossing on one channel. That means longer deployments and fewer trips into the field. (Note: the SM3BAT owner's manual has a detailed listing of battery life per battery type and recording format.)

Choose a schedule or create your own.
The SM3BAT comes with out-of-the box recording programs; including daytime, night time, and continuous recording schedules with automatic configuration. Just pick your desired schedule and press the Start button to begin making recordings immediately. Or, you can create customized, sophisticated schedules and settings to suit your exact needs.

Capture more than a terabyte of echolocation data.
The SM3BAT is compatible with SDHC and SDXC cards. There are four weatherproof SD card slots and with each card capable of storing 256 gigabytes of echolocation data. Combined with the SMBAT's adaptive triggering and compression, storage capacity exceeds a terabyte. That means more echolocation data containing vast amounts of echolocation detail.

Record in high fidelity using the new ultrasonic and acoustic microphones.
The new, weather resistant SMM-U1 ultrasonic microphone features high quality FG microphone elements that have improved signal to noise ratios and flatter frequency response over our previous microphones. Gain is applied at the microphone to increase signals in the cables (up to 100 meters) therefore reducing electrical noise interference. The result is higher quality recordings, even when the cables are run along side other cables on metrology towers or in wind turbines.

Expand the use of the SM3BAT.

Introducing a new generation of microphones.

The SM4 features entirely new, built-in microphones that create higher quality recordings than those from all previous Song Meter recorders. Alternatively to the built-in microphones, the SM4 includes two microphone ports – giving you the flexibility to record additional data from a cabled microphone; a new SMM-A2 cabled acoustic microphone, and/or hydrophone.

Two channels give you more recording flexibility.

If you need to record two sources of audio at the same time, take advantage of the SM4's dual channel feature. The SM4 features new power circuitry that significantly increases deployment time over the SM3 – up to 400 hours of recording time using internal batteries. In Sleep Mode, between scheduled recordings, the SM4 uses almost no power, allowing it to remain idle for months – meaning longer deployments, and fewer trips into the field.

Available GPS accessory to set clock and location.

When deploying multiple recorders, use a single GPS accessory to automatically set the date, time and location settings of all recorders. The GPS accessory can also be attached to log the recording locations and path for mobile transects.

The SM4's new Quick Start menu and Scheduler feature are an industry first. The SM4 comes with out-of-the box recording programs; including daytime, nighttime, and continuous recording schedules. Double your effective field coverage.
The SM3BAT is the only recorder that can simultaneously record in full spectrum at 256 kHz on two channels AND zero crossing on the same channels. It's like having two full spectrum and two zero crossing recorders in one box.

Should you need a higher sampling rate, the SM3BAT can sample in full spectrum up to 384 kHz on one channel. If you want more options for zero crossing files, the recorder has an improved zero crossing auto level and division ratios of 4, 8, 12 or 16.

The new, weather resistant SMM-U1 ultrasonic microphone features high quality FG microphone elements that have improved signal to noise ratios and flatter frequency response over our previous microphones. Gain is applied at the microphone to increase signals in the cables (up to 100 meters) therefore reducing electrical noise interference. The most economical deep water marine bioacoustics and ambient noise recorder.

The new, 3rd generation Song Meter SM3M Deep Water is designed for extended deployments in extreme off-shore environments and offers the same recording flexibility and precision of conventional recorders costing much more.

With a recording bandwidth of 2 Hz to 192 kHz, it is ideal for recording ambient noise levels for baseline characterization and capturing loud noises, including anthropogenic sounds like those from pile drivers and airguns. Best of all this can be done with a single unit during the same deployment.

Program for multiple-role assignments
The SM3M Deep Water can be programmed to optimize for different recording objectives on the same hydrophone or two hydrophones using a flexible two-channel input. The recorder's configuration utility allows you adjust settings for sample rate, gain, filters, and triggers.

Should you need to monitor a variety of sea life in a single deployment, the SM3M Deep Water can monitor for multiple species’ acoustics from infrasonic to ultrasonic at the same time or by scheduling different sample rates at different times.

Deploy for several weeks or several months
The SM3M Deep Water is designed to record ambient, biological and anthropogenic sounds down to 1000 meters. Extreme depths typically involve longer-than-usual deployments and so the recorder features adaptive triggering and compression to further extend deployment times.

You can deploy for months at a time using a recording schedule or duty cycle with neglible power consumption during sleep mode.

Capture more than a terabyte of echolocation data
The SM3M Deep Water uses SDXC and SDHC cards. There are four card slots and with each card capable of storing 256 gigabytes of vocalization data. Combined with the SM3M's adaptive triggering and compression, storage capacity exceeds a terabyte. That means more data containing everything from the faintest drumming, clicks and whistles to the l baseline loudest anthropogenic noises.

Service and redeploy while at sea
The SM3M Deep Water is designed to be quickly serviced and redeployed shipside, saving valuable time and money. Simply unscrew the recorder's hydrophone cap with the supplied spanner wrench and pull out the pc board. SD cards can be easily accessed and the unit can be quickly reprogrammed for any changes in deployment objectives.

The SM3M can be quickly anchored and recovered via tether, diver or acoustic release.

Customize to suite your specific needs
The SM3M Deep Water can be configured in a variety ways to meet your recording needs. We have selected an assortment of hydrophones for specific applications that meet strict performance criteria. You can outfit the SM3M with our standing acoustic hydrophone, upgrade to either an ultrasonic hydrophone or low-noise hydrophone or choose our high SPL, dual hydrophone option.

Choose the SM4BAT if:

Compact, lightweight, single-channel bat detector/recorder, available in full-spectrum and zero-crossing models.
Developed specifically for bat research, the SM4BAT recorders combine innovative design with a new low-power processor and easy-to-use scheduling features. The SM4BAT will make bat research simpler, faster, less costly and more reliable.

The SM4BAT FS records to full-spectrum WAV files. Full spectrum recordings have a 20dB signal-to-noise ratio advantage over zero-crossing recorders so you will record more bats with higher quality for analysis.

The SM4BAT ZC The SM4BAT-ZC is a native zero-crossing recorder. While recording less information than a full spectrum recorder, it may be "good enough" for some applications while offering lower power consumption, smaller storage requirements, and lower cost.

Small, secure and weatherproof.
Designed around the footprint of 4 D-size batteries and made of rugged polycarbonate, the SM4BAT is less than half the weight and size of the SM3BAT. The integrated mounting bracket and weatherproof security cover keep the unit safe and dry in the most punishing environments.

Longest deployment times available.
The new, low-power microprocessor, combined with 4 D-size batteries, enable the longest deployment times of any other bat recorder available. The SM4BAT FS has a recording run time of 250 to 450 hours depending on bat activity and other factors. The SM4BAT ZC run time of 600 to 700 hours. See Specifications for details.

Easy to program.
To get you started quickly, the SM4BAT features a brand new, easy-to-use, Quick Start menu and Scheduler. Use built-in schedules, or customize them for your specific recording needs.

Available GPS accessory to set clock and location.
When deploying multiple recorders, use a single GPS accessory to automatically set the date, time and location settings of all recorders. The GPS accessory can also be attached to log the recording locations and path for mobile transects.

Record in high fidelity using the new ultrasonic and acoustic microphones.
The new, weather resistant SMM-U1 ultrasonic microphone features high quality FG microphone elements that have improved signal to noise ratios and flatter frequency response over our previous microphones. Gain is applied at the microphone to increase signals in the cables (up to 100 meters) therefore reducing electrical noise interference. The result is higher quality recordings, even when the cables are run along side other cables on metrology towers or in wind turbines.

Standard 6 Meter Malaise Trap For Aerial Insect Collection

Reliable and field-tested trap designed for efficient passive collection of flying insects across various environments.

The 6-Meter Standard Malaise Trap Model 3012 is a flight interception trap with dual wet/dry collection heads. The traps were originally developed by Drs. Gressitt and Gressitt (An improved malaise trap, 1962. Pacific Insects, 4:87-90) and we have been selling this trap for over 20 years worldwide. The fabric is sun-resistant polyester and all seams are double or triple stitched.

Trap Location

Where the trap is placed is not solely determined by what you intend to catch. Consider natural flight paths, for example, along the edges of fields and paths within forests. If applicable, place the trap perpendicular to the direction of flight, e.g., butterfly migration or the diurnal movement of mosquitoes to and from a wooded area (particularly see Gressitt & Gressitt 1962). Remember, the trap will catch good numbers anywhere, but moving it every few days will reveal better spots than others for a particular genus or species. A trap placed in a shaded area will collect more if one or both collecting chambers are placed in sunlight or towards the light part of the horizon. The instructions also provide references on how to bait the trap, e.g., CO2 for biting flies.

Optional Alcohol Heads

The optional alcohol heads are interchangeable and are constructed of acrylic and stainless steel. The heads withstand the use of isopropyl alcohol, which is commonly used to kill the insects before the specimens are damaged. The catch is removed by unscrewing the bottles hung beneath the angled collection heads.

The GM-171 microscope from Motic is ideal for gemologists and experts in precious minerals. Equipped with a Greenough optical system and a binocular or trinocular head inclined at 45°, it allows magnification from 7.5X to 50X with a 6.7:1 zoom ratio. The illumination includes an adjustable 7W fluorescent source and a 6V/30W quartz halogen light with intensity control. Additionally, it features an adjustable diaphragm and a coarse focus system with tension adjustment for precise and comfortable analysis. Perfect for the inspection and documentation of gems and precious minerals.

Motic's SM7 Plan Apochromat is meant specifically for opaque samples, as it comes with a plain stand, although external light sources can be implemented. The SM7 Series features an optical performance with true colour reproduction, high resolution and low distortion. Motic's new Galilean stereomicroscopes are our new highlight in terms of colour reproduction, resolution and spatial information for users from biology, medicine and incustrial QC.
