La cámara de placas combinadas es una fabricación estándar que se adapta a prácticamente cualquier tipo de microscopio invertido.
Como se describe en el Manual de fitoplancton de la UNESCO (publicado en 1978), la cámara de placas combinadas le permite observar muestras de plancton sedimentado desde una distancia muy corta. ¿Cómo? Coloque la muestra en un cilindro encima de la placa rectangular de plexiglás con una placa base delgada, deje que el plancton fijado se concentre y, después de la sedimentación, simplemente empuje el cilindro con el exceso de líquido a un lado. El soporte de manipulación debajo de la placa recogerá el exceso de agua del cilindro. Ahora puede tomar la placa y examinar la muestra bajo un microscopio invertido. Se proporcionan tres tamaños de cilindros calibrados con cada conjunto, lo que permite analizar diferentes volúmenes de muestra.

The Integrating Water Sampler IWS III is a light and handy instrument for the acquisition of summing (integrated) water samples according to the EU-WFD (European Water Framework Directive). The integrated sample is automatically achieved in one single draft. There is no need for repeated operations of standard water samplers, followed by mixing procedures.
The sampling technique is very simple. An electric motor actuates a piston inside a transparent tube. A microprocessor controls the sampling procedure according to the pre-selected depth, time or spot scenario. A built-in high precision pressure sensor cares for accurate depth measurements. Power supply of the sampler is made by rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, using the safest chemistry currently available.

Uno de los procesos marinos más importantes es la formación de materia orgánica resultante de la interacción del dióxido de carbono, el agua y la luz solar, proceso conocido como fotosíntesis. La capacidad de medir este proceso es de gran importancia al evaluar los sistemas pelágicos marinos. En la práctica, la mejor manera de medir la fotosíntesis es observar la absorción de dióxido de carbono. La alta sensibilidad de las mediciones de absorción de dióxido de carbono permite utilizar este método en todas las circunstancias. Ni las concentraciones de algas bajas o muy altas ni las condiciones de poca luz y las bajas temperaturas son restricciones para este método.
Basado en el método 14C, utilizando la absorción del isótopo de carbono 14C radiactivo (Steemann-Nielsen, 1952), la incubadora ICES es el estándar ICES para las mediciones de producción primaria de fitoplancton. La incubadora que se muestra aquí se ha desarrollado principalmente con fines de monitoreo . Debe usarse preferentemente para muestras de agua tomadas de una capa de agua mezclada con una temperatura fija. Las mediciones de la cantidad de fitoplancton (basadas en las mediciones de concentración de clorofila-a) deben llevarse a cabo con fines de interpretación.
La incubadora ICES consiste en un tanque de plexiglás transparente iluminado que incorpora una rueda giratoria en la que se pueden sujetar 12 botellas experimentales. El depósito se llena de agua que se pone en movimiento mediante una bomba de circulación regulable. Así, la rueda giratoria se pone en rotación a velocidades de hasta 10 rpm con las botellas experimentales actuando como paletas. Las conexiones del tanque para una segunda circulación de agua permiten ajustes de temperatura del agua mediante el uso de equipos de templado externos.
Las 12 botellas experimentales de 50 ml de capacidad cada una tienen diferentes recubrimientos ópticos, de modo que cada botella tiene tasas de transmisión individuales y, por lo tanto, genera un número de 12 niveles de irradiancia (o intensidad de luz) diferentes.
