It is significantly smaller and lighter than the SM3BAT, making it easier to transport to remote sites. Built from rugged polycarbonate, it has been subjected to environmental shock, drop testing, and static discharge to ensure reliable operation in the most punishing environments—from caves and jungles to deserts—all backed by an industry-leading 3-year warranty.

• SM4BAT FS (Full Spectrum): Records to 16-bit full-spectrum .WAV files. Full-spectrum recordings offer a 20dB signal-to-noise ratio advantage over zero-crossing recorders, capturing more bats with higher quality for detailed analysis.
• SM4BAT ZC (Zero Crossing): A native zero-crossing recorder. While recording less information than full-spectrum, it provides an ideal solution for applications requiring lower power consumption, smaller storage requirements, and a lower cost.

Standard 6 Meter Malaise Trap For Aerial Insect Collection

Reliable and field-tested trap designed for efficient passive collection of flying insects across various environments.

The 6-Meter Standard Malaise Trap Model 3012 is a flight interception trap with dual wet/dry collection heads. The traps were originally developed by Drs. Gressitt and Gressitt (An improved malaise trap, 1962. Pacific Insects, 4:87-90) and we have been selling this trap for over 20 years worldwide. The fabric is sun-resistant polyester and all seams are double or triple stitched.

Features

• Dual collection heads can be used wet or dry.

• Interception baffle measures 2.6 by 4.5 m.
• Optional acrylic alcohol heads provide dedicated wet collection.

Trap Location

Where the trap is placed is not solely determined by what you intend to catch. Consider natural flight paths, for example, along the edges of fields and paths within forests. If applicable, place the trap perpendicular to the direction of flight, e.g., butterfly migration or the diurnal movement of mosquitoes to and from a wooded area (particularly see Gressitt & Gressitt 1962). Remember, the trap will catch good numbers anywhere, but moving it every few days will reveal better spots than others for a particular genus or species. A trap placed in a shaded area will collect more if one or both collecting chambers are placed in sunlight or towards the light part of the horizon. The instructions also provide references on how to bait the trap, e.g., CO2 for biting flies.

Optional Alcohol Heads

The optional alcohol heads are interchangeable and are constructed of acrylic and stainless steel. The heads withstand the use of isopropyl alcohol, which is commonly used to kill the insects before the specimens are damaged. The catch is removed by unscrewing the bottles hung beneath the angled collection heads.

Also available in 2, 4 and 6 inches without grapples, ideal for animals like birds. You can choose the 4 launchers in the kit. The extend reach and high power projection of the net from the launcher makes it possible to catch the fastest animals “on the fly.” It’s no longer necessary to corner the prey, to hurt it and to stress the animal out in long chases. In many cases the animal just surrenders to the covering net without fighting or entangling itself.

The inclination tool for professionals

The Suunto PM-5 hand-held clinometers are used all over the world by foresters, surveyors, engineers, cartographers, geologists, miners and architects and many others to measure heights, vertical angles and slopes quickly, reliably and easily.

Suunto height meter PM-5/1520 is an instrument for measuring heights, especially heights of trees, with great accuracy and speed. It can also be used to determine the angle of a gradient. The body of the instrument is corrosion-resistant anodized aluminium-alloy. The scale card runs on a special bearing in a hermetically sealed plastic container filled with a liquid which guarantees that it runs freely and stops quickly. The liquid will not freeze, retains full damping properties in working conditions and eliminates irritating scale vibrations.

When measured from distances of 15 m and 20 m, tree heights can be read straight off the instrument’s scales. The readings should be doubled when measuring from distances of 30 m and 40 m. The Suunto height metre can also be used to determine the angle of a gradient, the reading obtained can be checked in the conversion table on the back of the instrument.

The SW350T retains all the features of our popular SW350B: the interchangeable 10X and 25X widefield eyepieces are mounted on a Siedentopf head that rotates, allowing for quick adjustments to fit different interpupillary distances without losing focus. The four DIN achromatic objectives -- 4X, 10X, 40X (spring-loaded), and 100X (spring-loaded, oil) -- combine with the eyepieces to deliver six powerful magnification levels ranging from 40X to 2500X. A LED bulb provides consistent, bright illumination, fully controlled by the intensity adjustment dial and focused through a standard industry NA 1.25 Abbe condenser and iris diaphragm. A large mechanical stage with a movable slide holder allows you to view the entire sample area without repositioning the slide.

The SW350T also introduces a third eyepiece tube where an additional eyepiece or a microscope camera (not included) can be mounted, allowing users to stream and record video as well as capture sample images.
