The Song Meter SM4BAT is a single-channel ultrasound detector and recorder specifically developed for advanced bat research. Combining innovative design with a new low-power processor, the SM4BAT simplifies field deployment through intuitive scheduling blocks and a quick-start menu. It is significantly smaller and lighter than the SM3BAT, making it easier to transport to remote sites. Built from rugged polycarbonate, it has been subjected to environmental shock, drop testing, and static discharge to ensure reliable operation in the most punishing environments—from caves and jungles to deserts—all backed by an industry-leading 3-year warranty.

Available Models

• SM4BAT FS (Full Spectrum): Records to 16-bit full-spectrum .WAV files. Full-spectrum recordings offer a 20dB signal-to-noise ratio advantage over zero-crossing recorders, capturing more bats with higher quality for detailed analysis.
• SM4BAT ZC (Zero Crossing): A native zero-crossing recorder. While recording less information than full-spectrum, it provides an ideal solution for applications requiring lower power consumption, smaller storage requirements, and a lower cost.

• Unmatched Deployment Times: The FS model can record between 250 and 450 hours, while the ZC model reaches 600 to 700 hours using just 4 D-size batteries.
• High-Fidelity Recording: Compatible with the weather-resistant SMM-U1 microphone, which reduces electrical noise interference even when using cables up to 100 meters long.
• Easy Programming: Features a brand new Quick Start menu and flexible Scheduler to meet almost any recording need.

The SM4BAT does not include a microphone. You can select cabled ultrasonic and acoustic mics, as well as hydrophones. Directional microphone horns, system calibrators, SD cards, rechargeable batteries, and power adapters are also available for purchase.
