The Pettersson D500X Mk II is a specialized ultrasound recording unit built for high-fidelity bat research. Unlike traditional time-expansion detectors, the D500X records full-spectrum ultrasound in real-time, delivering virtually gapless data capture. This Mk II version features significant upgrades over the classic model, including a professional XLR microphone jack and enhanced power efficiency using 4 C-type batteries for deployments lasting over a month. Encased in a rugged aluminum housing, it utilizes a sophisticated triggering system to save time-stamped .WAV files automatically whenever bat activity is detected.
