These butterfly bait traps easily fit into backpacks for field trips. They are lightweight, weighing only 310 grams, and extremely compact—21 cm in diameter and 5 cm thick when folded. The traps are made of polyester mesh measuring 96 x 26 cm. They stand 100 cm tall and feature a side zipper opening (~90 cm) along the full length for removing captured butterflies. The trap is held open by foldable rings measuring 38 cm in diameter at the top and bottom of the black cylinder.

The conical trap includes a white funnel with a 10 cm diameter opening. A removable bait tray measuring 20 cm in diameter and 3 cm deep is supplied for use with these traps. It hangs from hooks beneath the trap cylinder. When properly attached, this tray is wind-resistant. To attach the tray to the cylinder, insert the hook through the tray hole so that the open part of the hook faces outward. An 8 cm skirt is sewn onto the bottom and can be folded to adjust the distance between the bait tray and the lower entry as needed. For a larger landing platform, simply place cardboard or hard plastic sheets at the bottom of the tray.
