For measuring the depth to water in wells, boreholes, standpipes, and tanks, Model 101 Water Level Meters are the industry standard for portable hand operated meters. They are sturdy, easy to use and read accurately to 1/100 ft. or each millimeter.

There are two versions to choose from. The Model 101 P7 Water Level Meter features a pressure-proof probe rated to 500 psi and laser marked PVDF flat tape.

The Model 101 P2 Water Level Meter features an easy-to-repair probe and heat embossed polyethylene flat tape.

P2 probes cannot be submersed, while P7 probes are submersible up to 1000′.

- Capture high quality recordings with the SM3-Microphone-To-SM2 Adaptor. Use the new SM3-U1 microphone (featuring the Knowles FG microphone element) with your SM2BAT+ and SM2 cables. The SM3-U1 is weatherproof, immune to electromagnetic interference, produces a flatter frequency response than the SMX-US and SMX-UT microphones and has a higher signal-to-noise ratio. The 3rd generation Song Meter SM3BAT is a new benchmark for bat bioacoustics recorders. From innovative recording features, massive data storage capacity and a significant improvement in deployment time over the SM2BAT+, the new SM3BAT makes bat echolocation data capture, easier and more cost effective.

Double your effective field coverage.
The SM3BAT is the only recorder that can simultaneously record in full spectrum at 256 kHz on two channels AND zero crossing on the same channels. It's like having two full spectrum and two zero crossing recorders in one box.

Should you need a higher sampling rate, the SM3BAT can sample in full spectrum up to 384 kHz on one channel. If you want more options for zero crossing files, the recorder has an improved zero crossing auto level and division ratios of 4, 8, 12 or 16.

Record up to 180 hours in full spectrum.
Time is money and the SM3BAT was designed to reduce your cost of ownership. The SM3BAT has new power circuitry that increases deployment time by 50% over the SM2BAT+. In short, the SM3BAT can record up to 180 hours of echolocation data in full spectrum and up to 700 hours in zero crossing on one channel. That means longer deployments and fewer trips into the field. (Note: the SM3BAT owner's manual has a detailed listing of battery life per battery type and recording format.)

The SM3BAT comes with out-of-the box recording programs; including daytime, night time, and continuous recording schedules with automatic configuration. Just pick your desired schedule and press the Start button to begin making recordings immediately. Or, you can create customized, sophisticated schedules and settings to suit your exact needs.

Capture more than a terabyte of echolocation data.
The SM3BAT is compatible with SDHC and SDXC cards. There are four weatherproof SD card slots and with each card capable of storing 256 gigabytes of echolocation data. Combined with the SMBAT's adaptive triggering and compression, storage capacity exceeds a terabyte. That means more echolocation data containing vast amounts of echolocation detail.

Record in high fidelity using the new ultrasonic and acoustic microphones.
The new, weather resistant SMM-U1 ultrasonic microphone features high quality FG microphone elements that have improved signal to noise ratios and flatter frequency response over our previous microphones. Gain is applied at the microphone to increase signals in the cables (up to 100 meters) therefore reducing electrical noise interference. The result is higher quality recordings, even when the cables are run along side other cables on metrology towers or in wind turbines.

Expand the use of the SM3BAT.

The SM4 features two built-in microphones, innovative scheduling tools, large data storage, and low power consumption – a unique combination of features that provide the longest deployment times of any acoustic recorder available.

Cabled acoustic microphones, acoustic hydrophones and a GPS option are available. The SM3/SM4 Power Adaptor Cable connects the SM4 to alternative power sources. NiHM batteries and high capacity SD cards are available as well.

Introducing a new generation of microphones.

The SM4 features entirely new, built-in microphones that create higher quality recordings than those from all previous Song Meter recorders. Alternatively to the built-in microphones, the SM4 includes two microphone ports – giving you the flexibility to record additional data from a cabled microphone; a new SMM-A2 cabled acoustic microphone, and/or hydrophone.

Two channels give you more recording flexibility.

If you need to record two sources of audio at the same time, take advantage of the SM4's dual channel feature. Record in stereo or mono using the built-in microphones, or connect one or two cabled microphone/hydrophones. Adding additional runs of cable to the external microphone give you the ability to capture audio from far-off wildlife such as birds in the forest canopy, or frogs at a nearby pond.

Capture months of acoustic data.

The SM4 features new power circuitry that significantly increases deployment time over the SM3 – up to 400 hours of recording time using internal batteries. In Sleep Mode, between scheduled recordings, the SM4 uses almost no power, allowing it to remain idle for months – meaning longer deployments, and fewer trips into the field.

Available GPS accessory to set clock and location.

When deploying multiple recorders, use a single GPS accessory to automatically set the date, time and location settings of all recorders. The GPS accessory can also be attached to log the recording locations and path for mobile transects.

Choose a schedule or create your own.

The SM4's new Quick Start menu and Scheduler feature are an industry first. The SM4 comes with out-of-the box recording programs; including daytime, nighttime, and continuous recording schedules. Simply choose schedule and press the Start button. The SM4's new Scheduler features makes it easy to create custom schedules that suit your exact needs.

Capture more than a terabyte of data.

The SM4 has two SD card slots that accept SDHC and SDXC cards. When fitted with two 512GB cards, the SM4 can store over a terabyte of data. In the future, when higher capacity cards come to market, the SM4 will store even more.

Double your effective field coverage.
The SM3BAT is the only recorder that can simultaneously record in full spectrum at 256 kHz on two channels AND zero crossing on the same channels. It's like having two full spectrum and two zero crossing recorders in one box.

Should you need a higher sampling rate, the SM3BAT can sample in full spectrum up to 384 kHz on one channel. If you want more options for zero crossing files, the recorder has an improved zero crossing auto level and division ratios of 4, 8, 12 or 16.

With a recording bandwidth of 2 Hz to 192 kHz, it is ideal for recording ambient noise levels for baseline characterization and capturing loud noises, including anthropogenic sounds like those from pile drivers and airguns. Best of all this can be done with a single unit during the same deployment.

Program for multiple-role assignments
The SM3M Deep Water can be programmed to optimize for different recording objectives on the same hydrophone or two hydrophones using a flexible two-channel input. The recorder's configuration utility allows you adjust settings for sample rate, gain, filters, and triggers.

Service and redeploy while at sea
The SM3M Deep Water is designed to be quickly serviced and redeployed shipside, saving valuable time and money. Simply unscrew the recorder's hydrophone cap with the supplied spanner wrench and pull out the pc board. SD cards can be easily accessed and the unit can be quickly reprogrammed for any changes in deployment objectives.

The SM3M can be quickly anchored and recovered via tether, diver or acoustic release.

The SM3M Deep Water can be configured in a variety ways to meet your recording needs. We have selected an assortment of hydrophones for specific applications that meet strict performance criteria. Combining innovative design with a new low-power processor, the SM4BAT simplifies field deployment through intuitive scheduling blocks and a quick-start menu. It is significantly smaller and lighter than the SM3BAT, making it easier to transport to remote sites. Built from rugged polycarbonate, it has been subjected to environmental shock, drop testing, and static discharge to ensure reliable operation in the most punishing environments—from caves and jungles to deserts—all backed by an industry-leading 3-year warranty.

Available Models

• SM4BAT FS (Full Spectrum): Records to 16-bit full-spectrum .WAV files. Full-spectrum recordings offer a 20dB signal-to-noise ratio advantage over zero-crossing recorders, capturing more bats with higher quality for detailed analysis.
• SM4BAT ZC (Zero Crossing): A native zero-crossing recorder. While recording less information than full-spectrum, it provides an ideal solution for applications requiring lower power consumption, smaller storage requirements, and a lower cost.

The 6-Meter Standard Malaise Trap Model 3012 is a flight interception trap with dual wet/dry collection heads. The traps were originally developed by Drs. Gressitt and Gressitt (An improved malaise trap, 1962. Pacific Insects, 4:87-90) and we have been selling this trap for over 20 years worldwide. The fabric is sun-resistant polyester and all seams are double or triple stitched.

Trap Location

Where the trap is placed is not solely determined by what you intend to catch. Consider natural flight paths, for example, along the edges of fields and paths within forests. If applicable, place the trap perpendicular to the direction of flight, e.g., butterfly migration or the diurnal movement of mosquitoes to and from a wooded area (particularly see Gressitt & Gressitt 1962). Remember, the trap will catch good numbers anywhere, but moving it every few days will reveal better spots than others for a particular genus or species. A trap placed in a shaded area will collect more if one or both collecting chambers are placed in sunlight or towards the light part of the horizon. The instructions also provide references on how to bait the trap, e.g., CO2 for biting flies.

Optional Alcohol Heads

The optional alcohol heads are interchangeable and are constructed of acrylic and stainless steel. The heads withstand the use of isopropyl alcohol, which is commonly used to kill the insects before the specimens are damaged.
