Wildco Ekman Series Benthic Dredge Sampler with up to 9x9 inch Area

Quantitative and Qualitative Sampling of Benthic Fauna in Soft Bottoms

This dredge is your ideal tool for taking macroscopic fauna samples in soft bottoms that are free of vegetation or have short, firm vegetation. Its design is perfect for you to perform quantitative and qualitative sampling and to determine the productivity of bottoms composed of finely divided mud, silt, or peat. It is not recommended for rocky or sandy bottoms, as small stones could prevent the proper closure of the jaws.

Two thin, overlapping top lids open during descent to allow water to pass through and close during retrieval to reduce sample washout. To operate, simply set the springs, lower the dredge to the bottom, and send the messenger down to trigger the jaws to close and capture the sample.

Designed for Large Samples in Soft Bottoms with Pinch-pin™ Automatic Release Mechanism

This dredge is designed for you to take large samples in soft bottoms. Its long lever arms and sharp cutting edges on the bottom of the scoops allow you to cut deep into softer substrates. Safety is ensured by using our patented closing mechanism, the self-releasing Pinch-pin™, which keeps the dredge open until it hits the bottom. Upon impact, the tension on the chains is released, activating the Pinch-pin™ and allowing the scoops to close firmly as you lift the cable.

The top of each scoop is protected by a stainless steel screen that allows water to flow through during descent and is covered by a neoprene flap to prevent the sample from washing out during retrieval. For operation, you will need a 1/8" cable and a winch.

The Wolf Collar (Iridium) is a Platform Messaging Transceiver (PMT) that enables remote data collection via Iridium satellite connectivity. Specifically designed for wildlife ecological studies, it combines high-precision GPS with multiple sensors to capture environmental and behavioral information. In addition to scheduled transmissions, the device offers intelligent features through patented INTELINK® technology, such as remote data download, tracker recovery, and real-time in-field modeling. Its hybrid system of rechargeable and primary batteries with solar charging ensures efficient, long-lasting operation even in challenging habitats.
