This device is used to determine the penetration resistance of the upper soil layers. The operating principle of this penetrometer is based on measuring the maximum resistance to penetration of a cone over a distance of approximately 10 cm. The resistance is measured using a compression spring. Various cones and compression springs are available, allowing the selection of an appropriate combination depending on the expected soil resistance. Due to its limited overall length, the penetrometer can also be used for horizontal measurements, for example in the walls of profile pits.
