The Bottom Samplers acc. to Van Veen are designed to obtain qualitative sediment samples with minimal disturbance from any desired depth. Their clamshell jaws remain open during descent and automatically close when the sampler touches the seabed and is pulled up, securing the sample and preventing wash-out. Heavy versions include additional lids or inspection windows, covered with stainless steel gauze and rubber flaps, that allow visual inspection before retrieval. Models range from light 5.5 kg samplers to heavy 60 kg ISO-compliant designs, providing versatile solutions for hydrographic surveys, aquatic research, and environmental monitoring in compliance with EN ISO 16665 standards.
