Ideal for Plankton and Sediment Collection with Opaque PVC or Transparent Acrylic Options

Use this sampler in slightly corrosive water, saltwater, or water with large amounts of suspended or sticky colloidal solids. Its wide mouth allows you to collect a true water sample without contamination from other water levels. During descent, the open mouth does not restrict water flow, making it particularly suitable for collecting plankton and floating sediments. You can order this versatile bottle in either transparent acrylic or opaque PVC. The PVC is more durable and less costly, while the acrylic allows you to view the sample contents immediately.

This sampler is not suitable for trace metal analysis (e.g., mercury or phosphorus) due to potential contamination from the materials in its structure. For precision chemical analysis, we recommend our Beta Bottle water samplers.

Water flow is not restricted during descent - desirable for collecting plankton, floating sediments and for metallic ion avoidance. Your choice of transparent acrylic or more durable opaque PVC.

Designed for trace metal sampling. Also may be used for organic sampling to concentrations of mg/L. When running metal, organic, or any other chemical analyses, it is best to run a blank on the sampler prior to use.

This bottle is excellent for near off-shore (to 200 m) trace metal sampling, since there are no metal parts to touch your sample. You avoid the metallic ion contamination that can cause major errors in algal assays or productivity. Beta Van Dorn bottles have rigid, white plastic end seals for clean sealing. The bottle ends are machined to fit foam silicone gaskets. Amber latex tubing, which does not leach measurable amounts of metal, closes the bottle. Beta™ bottles feature a nylon safety line connecting the end seals, so if the closing tube breaks, you’re less likely to lose your expensive seals. This is why Beta bottles have an excellent track record in a wide variety of field conditions.

This dredge is your ideal tool for taking macroscopic fauna samples in soft bottoms that are free of vegetation or have short, firm vegetation. Its design is perfect for you to perform quantitative and qualitative sampling and to determine the productivity of bottoms composed of finely divided mud, silt, or peat. It is not recommended for rocky or sandy bottoms, as small stones could prevent the proper closure of the jaws.

Two thin, overlapping top lids open during descent to allow water to pass through and close during retrieval to reduce sample washout. To operate, simply set the springs, lower the dredge to the bottom, and send the messenger down to trigger the jaws to close and capture the sample.

Versatile and Durable Design with "All-Angle™" Trip Head for Precise Water Samples

Kemmerer bottles are designed so that no metal parts touch your sample. They feature a Delrin closure and an O-ring that replace the steel spring in the "All-Angle™" trip head. The bottle is available in transparent acrylic, which allows you to see the sample before decanting, and also in opaque PVC for greater durability. This sampler is designed for general sampling and is not suitable for trace metal analysis. For that purpose, we recommend our Beta or trace metal Kemmerer samplers.

Storage Tip: When storing your sampler, ensure the seals are open and not touching the bottle's body. This will prevent them from becoming misshapen during long periods of inactivity. This sampler requires a messenger and a line (included in the kits) for operation.

This powerful center-pivot dredge is designed for you to sample sediments ranging from soft to compact in deep lakes and near-shore areas. It allows you to transfer undisturbed samples to the surface from any depth, without washout. Its specialty is sampling benthic organisms living at or just below the water-bottom interface, including non-sessile forms.

Based on the patented design of oceanographer Carl J. Shipek, this dredge consists of two concentric half-cylinders. To operate it, you use the included arming wrench to set the torsion springs. A safety hook prevents premature release. Its large stabilizing handles, along with its weight, keep the dredge upright during descent, ensuring accurate sampling.
