The StormPro2 gives you advanced weather alert technology that you can use indoors or outdoors, and take anywhere for any outdoor activities.
The StormPro2 utilizes the latest miniature electronic technology to detect the electromagnetic (EM) signature of lightning in storms up to 208 km away. Once the storm is within 120 km of you, the StormPro2 provides a warning using four different methods: Text messages on the LCD screen, color change of the tension indicator (LED), and sounding an audible tone. All tracking and alert functions of the StormPro2 are automatic when the unit is on, and several are configurable through easy menu selections.
Note: There are two types of lightning produced by thunderstorms, "cloud to ground" and "cloud to cloud," also called heat lightning. For any user on the ground, "cloud to ground" lightning is the most dangerous. The StormPro2 is designed to detect "cloud to ground" lightning. There may be occasions when storms will produce "cloud to cloud" lightning movements that are not detected by the StormPro2, but extreme caution should always be used when exposed to thunderstorms. The StormPro2 Storm Tracker alerts you to thunderstorms within 120 km of your location using electromagnetic field detection technology, generated by lightning, which can be found in a storm cell. The equipment detects multiple cells near you, estimating information about the range and speed of the nearest storm cell, and indicating any other active storms in the area.
The unit detects multiple cells near you and provides range and speed information about the nearest cell, plus an indication of other active cells in your area. Indicators will also alert you to squall lines or supercell storms (supercells make up about 10% of all thunderstorms and are larger and much more violent than normal storms.) When lightning activity is detected, information related to the activity is displayed in a set of two-line messages on the LCD screen. Messages repeat every few seconds, so any particular message repeats within a short period of time.
While the StormPro2 remains on, it continuously accumulates lightning activity data from storm cells within its detection range. As more data accumulates about any particular storm cell, more accurate position and speed information is displayed for the user. Once the unit determines that a storm is eight miles (13 km) from your location, the StormPro2 warns that the storm is LOCAL.
The StormPro2 will maintain this warning until the storm has moved beyond the 13 km range. While the storm is local, the unit will calculate and display the estimated time for the storm cell to move beyond the 13 km range. As lightning from the storm continues to register, the time to clear will update. It continuously monitors EM activity from detected storms and uses this data to provide alert information about supercell storms and squall lines to the user when detected. These two types of storms produce strong winds and extreme rain and can generate tornadoes.
